Barrels (new oak barrels were American Oak)
Certainly a more bold in flavor than what many have become accustomed to when they think of Merlot. Floral notes of violets and lavender with flavors of ripe plum, fig and berry jam. The finish rounds out with a hints of chocolate and coffee.
Certified green under Lodi Rules, this vineyard is sustainably farmed by the Maley family under the direction of Todd Maley. It is located approximately three miles southwest of our winery on California sprawl trellis system..
Grapes were handpicked in the early morning on September 17th, 2014 and were brought into the winery shortly after. Grapes were sorted to remove any leaves or undesired clusters. After that, grapes were destemmed and then transferred to both macro bins and a stainless tank to be cold soaked. After a period of days, yeast was added to the must (the destemmed grapes and juice) to help initiate fermentation. After fermentation was complete, grapes were rack and eventually were transferred to barrels. Barrel treatment was both new and old barrels, with the new being made entirely of American Oak Barrels.
