2015 Zinfandel - Indigenous
A deep garnet color, with aromas of cedar, medium bodied with hints of raspberries. This isn’t your big jammy, smoky style, this is far more finessed and subtle. Mildly fruit forward and definitely food friendly.
Cemetery Vineyard farmed by Aaron Shinn. Certified green under Lodi Rules, this vineyard is located in the Mokelumne River Sub AVA. This vineyard has this name for the simple reason that it is located in close proximity to a cemetery. Vines are head trained, planted in 1986.
Grapes were hand-picked in the morning and gently sorted and transferred back to bins for cold soak. We then monitored and waited several days for the fruit to begin to ferment on it’s own with whatever ambient and native yeast was present on the grapes and in the winery. The vast majority of the fruit was wild fermentated (indigenous fermentation) in bins and the cap was punched down 3 times daily. Aged in both American and French Oak barrels.
